Xavier Prep loses on road
A injury-plagued Xavier Prep High School football team fell behind 22-6 at halftime and went on to lose 48-20 to Mountain Empire in its season opener Friday night.  Tight end Brandon Vandenburg, who missed the first half, finished with seven catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a 2-point conversion. Quarterback Anthony Neyer completed 12-of-32 passes for 226 yards.

DHS rallies for emotional victory
Xavier (0-3) was clicking with its running game and didn't need the strong arm of quarterback Anthony Neyer (14 of 26 for 202 yards, four TDs) until the second half. [...] Xavier was able to get its passing game going and Neyer hit a streaking Joey Quinzio for an 8-yard score and Mai Le's kick gave Xavier the short-lived lead again at 29-28

Xavier earns first victory
In the second quarter, Hamilton lined up to try a 26-yard field goal, but the kick was blocked by Brandon Vandenburg and returned 78 yards for a touchdown by James Saunders to give the Saints a 12-0 lead.

Behind three scoring passes from quarterback Anthony Neyer and three touchdowns from running back Domonic De La Riva, the Xavier Prep Saints beat Hamilton.


Xavier Prep running back Domonic De La Riva is the Desert Sun's ultimate Friday Night Hero, picking up 7,226 votes to beat out Coachella Valley running back Oliver Inzunza, who finished with 6,615 votes.

The Xavier Prep High School football team is quickly erasing memories of its 0-3 start, picking up its second consecutive victory with a 41-12 road victory over Silver Valley on Friday.

Saints regroup to roll over Rock Academy
After giving up a touchdown to the San Diego's Rock Academy Warriors on the opening drive of the game Friday, the Saints scored 48 consecutive points on their way to a 55-12 victory.

Xavier beat a much bigger team in Lucerne Valley’s Varsity 38-14. Domonic DeLa Riva was the spark offensively for the Saints. He had 104yds rushing and 2 TD’s plus a 2pt conversion, he also added an interception on defense. James Saunders added 86 yds rushing and 1 TD. Chris Pange added many tough yards running the ball on offense and, Tim Sullivan scored his first TD of the season with a 10yd reception. Back-up quarterback Joey Quinzio lead Xavier with 3 TD passes and 2-2pt conversion passes. On defense Chris Pange (16 tackles) lead the way as usual with his outstanding effort and will to win on defense. Freshman Pablo De Lara in his first start added 14 tackles. Evan Ross had big play after big play on defense to slow down the huge offense of Lucerne Valley. Brandon Vandenburg made a huge play for Xavier when he broke into the Mustang backfield and ripped the ball away from their running back and carried it 30yds for a Saint Touch Down. Xavier soccer sensation continues to show her value by adding 2 more PAT’s 4 for 4 on the year. She also took care of the kick-off duties for the Saints. The Xavier Saints are 2 – 0 thus far with 9-10 freshmen players starting and playing significant minutes. You should be proud of the hard fought victory that your Xavier Saints pulled off on Friday night.

Xavier Prep got its first ever victory yesterday! We beat Coachella Valley 14 7. James Saunders had 10 carries for 111yds and 1 Touch Down, and also had a punt return of 50yds for a Touch Down. Dominic De La Riva had 8 rushes for 74 yds. The team had a total of 231yds rushing. Chris Pange had 5 Tackles and 2 Sacks on Defense. James Saunders also had 6 Tackles and 1 sack. Evan Ross had 5 assisted tackles and 1 solo tackle. Female Kicker Mai Le in her first ever football game kicked Xavier Preps first ever extra points in extremely windy condition, 2 extra points. GO SAINTS! 1 - 0 on the season. Next football game is AWAY against Lucerne Valley HS (Varsity) on September 19 at 7:00pm.
