Blood Drive, 8:00am-1:00pm Xavier Parking Lot

Category: GENERAL

Date: October 22, 2020 - October 22, 2020

Dear Xavier Community,
We hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. We are pleased to announce an opportunity for the Xavier community to continue to promote health and safety to all who live in the Coachella Valley. The LifeStream Bloodmobile will be on our campus on Thursday, October 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will be located in the main school parking lot in the spaces right next to the new track and football field. This year, they are offering FREE COVID-19 antibody testing with every donation! Your blood donation takes about 10 minutes and the results of your antibody test are ready online within about one hour. Please consider taking a moment out of your day to stop by and donate while finding out if you have the possibility of being a convalescent plasma donor to help those who may be suffering from a COVID-19 infection.
LIfeStream has let us know they are running extremely low on blood donations. They have protocols in place for proper social distancing as well as a rigorous safety and disinfection protocol. They strongly recommend that you set up an appointment for a time to donate between the hours of 8 am and 1 pm on Thursday, October 22. This helps them more efficiently process donors and will save you time as well. Please see the digital flyer (attachment) for all information. There is a clickable link on the flyer to set up your appointment as well.
Xavier Student LIfe will be awarding HOUSE POINTS to all who donate! Students as young as 15 years old and 115 lbs may donate with parental permission. Please see the information here, which has the consent form at the bottom. If under 17 years old, please print out the consent form and bring with you. All donors will need their I.D. as well.
Below are some notes from LifeStream about the process and the safety protocols:
LifeStream is advising potential donors to stay away if they have visited countries with the most widespread transmission within the past 28 days, or have been exposed to someone suspected of having a COVID-19 infection. LifeStream follows the FDA-regulated donor pre-screening process, and it is, and always has been a requirement that donors are well and healthy. Our staff adhere to rigorous safety and disinfection protocol, including wearing gloves and personal protective gear, wiping down donor-touched areas often and after every collection, using sterile collection sets for every donation/collection, and arm scrubbing for 30 seconds. LifeStream is following the recommendations of our government officials in regards to wearing face masks. Precautionary measures are taken in our canteen area; snacks are not left out in common areas and are given to donors by LifeStream personnel in addition to frequent cleaning of the canteen area. The COVID-19 antibody test is included with each blood donation and does not take any extra time during the procedure. Donors can check the results online. The whole process takes about 45 minutes to about an hour. The actual blood donation takes about 5 – 10 minutes. Utilizing ExpressPass allows a donor to shorten the process by preregistering online on the day of blood drive with their smartphone or PC and answering the donor history questions prior to entering the bloodmobile.
We will have two canopies set up outside the bloodmobile for donor check-in and canteen. We will have donors spaced apart to maintain social distancing. If donors can strive to make an appointment, we can have an even donor flow and avoid anyone having to wait long to get in. if we do have walk-in traffic and no space to sit, our staff will advise donors to wait in their car and will text them when they can go in the bloodmobile.

Thank you for considering a valuable blood donation at this time.
